Advent calendars based on the Nativity can be hard to come by these days. Here is a quilted one that my neighbor Lori found online.
Ashlee, who made this calendar for her children, wrote to me about the experience:
“You are welcome to use my advent calendar on your blog. It was kind of an experiment. I searched high and low for an advent calendar that was centered on Christ vs the usual one with reindeer and Santa type stuff. It is very important in our family that Christ is the focus of Christmas. There really aren’t a lot out there. So I found this one http://shop.arttoheart.com/product.sc?productId=22&categoryId=-1 from Art to Heart.
“I used the ornaments directly out of the pattern, and they took a while to complete. There are a lot of little pieces
Then I just made up a pattern for a manger to use in the background instead. My sister and I made them together and I just used one piece dark brown fabric and one piece light brown fabric and stacked them and used my rotary cutter to cut them both at the same time. Not sure if you are familiar with ‘Buggy Barn Quilt’ type stack and whack quilts, but the same idea.
